Marinda Combrinck

I am a full-time fine artist who lives and works in Calitzdorp,

Western Cape, South Africa. I studied Fine Arts at the Pretoria Technikon. Apart from my own work which is represented by various selected galleries in South Africa, I participate in group exhibitions and work on a variety of commissions, both as part of a team of artists and in my individual capacity.

Working mainly in oils on canvas, I use nature and life in general as inspiration for my work. My themes mostly revolve around the psyche of man, woman and child, as individuals, the way they interact with each other and their respective relationships, as well as how they relate to and function within their environment. Having been born and raised in cities and now living in a rather remote part of South Africa, the Karoo, I realise now how the people, the landscapes, the fauna and flora have all had a huge impact on my work over the past two years. My imagery is rooted in the African environment, yet my themes are universal and relevant to all of human kind, which is stylistically represented in the combination of symbolism and realism in my work. My subject matter is varied and includes landscapes, still life, animal and figure studies as well as portraits.
